Peñón de Ifach

Peñón de Ifach

The one who is always there, watching over Calpe.

It is the first thing you see upon arriving and needs no introduction. It is visible from any point in Calpe, and for good reason. Over 330 meters high, a distinctive silhouette, and the unique character of this place.

It’s not just a enormous rock. It is a natural park and home to many species. More than 80 types of birds pass through or nest here, such as hawks, gulls, cormorants... Among them, plants like Silene d’Ifach, a flower that grows in only three places: the Marina Alta, Ibiza, and here. For a time, it was thought to be lost. But it persisted.

For those who ascend

The path to the top starts easy and gradually becomes more difficult. You pass the medieval site of Pobla d’Ifach, and then things get serious. After crossing the tunnel, the trail becomes narrower, more slippery, and steeper. It’s not for everyone, but it’s not impossible either.

There is a fork where you can choose: continue to the summit or take a detour to the Carabineros viewpoint, which offers already quite spectacular views. If you decide to keep going, take your time ascending. The reward is real: on clear days, you can see as far as Ibiza (seriously), Formentera, or Cape Santa Pola.

When to go

The Costa Blanca has good weather all year round, but if you're going to climb to the top, it’s best to avoid the midday hours in summer. The rock absorbs heat and it’s noticeable. The ideal times are early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Outside the season, any sunny day is a good excuse to visit.
