Benissa is not right on the coast, and that changes everything. Here, things move at a relaxed pace, as they should. On one side, there are paths that smell of rosemary and lead down to coves that don’t appear on maps. Intimate, peaceful, and less known. And fortunately, they remain so. On the other side, an old town that smells of firewood, sounds of bells, and is best explored on foot, between houses with wrought iron fences and neighbors greeting each other by name. The climate here is mild almost year-round, and the best moments usually happen out of season when the sun warms but doesn’t burn, there’s light, and everything is savored at a slower pace.

Taste of the land, sea breeze

In Benissa, you don’t have to rush to have a good day. Start with the Paseo Ecológico, one of those paths that, just by seeing them, explain the Costa Blanca without saying a word. Head down to Cala Baladrar or Advocat, which, when empty, are a peaceful corner. And if the sun is out, find a terrace and order octopus puchero or some baked coca. In the afternoon, the best thing is simplicity—sit in the square, order a local wine, and watch the day unfold. Here, there’s no need to check things off a list, only the desire to be.
