Cala la Manzanera in Calpe: discover this unique spot

Today we want to talk about one of the most curious points of the area, where you can enjoy spectacular views, a refreshing swim in crystal-clear waters, a ruins-laden social club, and everything, at the foot of one of the most striking buildings in Spanish architecture. This corner is none other than Cala la Manzanera in Calpe, do you want to get to know it?

 Where is Cala la Manzanera?

Cala la Manzanera is located, as we mentioned, beneath one of the most famous buildings in Spanish architecture, la Muralla Roja by the renowned architect Ricardo Bofill. This building was conceived in the 1960s and finished construction in 1973. It even had a Social Club by the sea that, today, has become one of the most unique spaces of Cala la Manzanera in Calpe despite being out of use.

This building, which was previously used as a bar for meetings, is currently in ruins but accessible with ease. Once inside, you can take one of the most unique photos possible, as the building features large round openings that create a perfect frame for a beautiful panoramic shot of the Peñón de Ifach, visible from the cove.

Cala la Manzanera: how to get there

To reach Cala la Manzanera in Calpe, you need to take Calle Partida Manzanera, leaving to the right the also famous Xanadú building and to the left the Edificio Anfiteatro. You should know that this street has no exit, so we do not recommend entering with a car.

What is Cala la Manzanera like?

This small enclave has great charm, similar to other spots in the area, such as the Baños de la Reina. It is a tiny cove about 5 meters wide and around 40 meters long, formed of stones and bathed by the blue waters that tint the coast of the municipality.

Since it is a cove composed of stones, to comfortably enjoy this small natural space, you need to wear appropriate footwear, both for walking around and for swimming. Therefore, don't forget to pack some water shoes.

Cala la Manzanera Beach

As we mentioned, it is not a fine sandy beach, and to enjoy it you’ll need to come prepared with your flip-flops. Usually, it's a less crowded spot where you can enjoy a very pleasant bath in peace.

We also recommend that, besides bringing a towel, if you want to spend some time there and it's possible, bring a small foldable chair to be comfortable. You could always sit on your towel, but for long periods, it might be less comfortable.

Another of the best activities you can do at Cala la Manzanera is snorkeling, since the waters are clear and you’ll be able to enjoy the local marine life. Water activities in the area are undoubtedly one of the top things to do.
