The Old Town of Calpe, what must you not miss?
If you're visiting the city, besides enjoying the beaches and the fabulous Calpe coves, we recommend dedicating some time to tourism. The Old Town of Calpe is full of charming places. If you decide to take a walk, you cannot miss these spots:
- The Puchalt Street. It is also called Street of Flags and is one of the favorites among tourists visiting the city. This other name is because the steps are painted with the colors of the Spanish flag. This decoration commemorates the acts held to mark the III Centennial of the Christ of Sweat (1682-1982). The area is very touristy, and it is very typical to take a photo on the steps.

- The Torreó de la Peça. Located next to the Plaza of the Villa of Calpe, it is a defensive fortification where the Peça, an artillery piece, was housed. Its base is truncated cone-shaped and the top part cylindrical, both separated by a stone and mortar molding.
- The Collecting Museum. It is located in the Torreó de la Peça and has about 50 square meters to exhibit both public and private works. Check the opening hours if you are interested in visiting.
- The Archaeological Museum. Located on Calle Santísimo Cristo, known as Casa de la Senyoreta. It contains very old pieces dating from the Bronze Age or Iberian Period, as well as some more recent. In this case, you should also check its opening hours, as they vary between summer and winter, and it is closed on certain days of the week.
- San Salvador de Calpe Hermitage. This is a recreation of Gothic style. It was first built in the 17th century but was destroyed. In 1748, another building was constructed on the same site, which had to be rebuilt in 1945 after the Civil War.
- Our Lady of the Snows Hermitage. It is dedicated to the patron saint of the city, Our Lady of the Snows. It is a parish with a different design from others and is worth a visit for its architectural interest.
- The Market. It is set up every Wednesday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It has more than 200 stalls offering all kinds of products. Besides shopping, visiting the market will also give you a taste of the local everyday life.
- El Forat de la Mar. It is located right in the Plaza de la Constitución. It consists of the remnants of the wall that once surrounded the city and was mostly destroyed in 1813 after the attack by French troops attempting to invade the area.
- The Plaça de la Villa. It is the meeting point of some cobbled streets of the town. The Roman ruins and walls are located here. In both the square and the surrounding streets, you'll discover countless corners worth exploring.
- Strolling along Calle Gabriel Miró. Walking down this street will lead you to one of the most touristy areas of the city. Additionally, it hosts some restaurants worth a stop. Without a doubt, this could be the perfect place to end your tour of Calpe, at least during the day.

What to do at night in the Old Town of Calpe?
It's true that some of the places we recommended can only be visited during the day, but there are some other options to enjoy the night in the Old Town of Calpe.
One of the best plans you can do any summer day is to visit the Night Craft Market of the Old Town of Calpe. It is held from June 15 to September 30 and is open from 8 p.m. to midnight. You will discover interesting pieces, but above all, you will enjoy a unique atmosphere.
Within the Old Town, there are many restaurants offering a wide range of cuisine. Plus, you'll find options not only for every taste but also for every budget.
After dinner, also around the area, you'll find several bars and pubs to have a drink. Undoubtedly, it will be the perfect ending to any walk through the Old Town of Calpe. If you prefer a quieter alternative, you can enjoy an ice cream on a terrace.
