Benissa Weekly Market
Color, fresh products, and shopkeepers who greet you by name even if they don't know you. That's what Saturday mornings are like here.
Every Saturday morning, the streets of downtown Benissa transform. The old town is filled with stalls, aromas, voices, and people carrying bags who come for fruit, bread, or simply out of habit. Because the Benissa market is not just for shopping, it’s an experience in itself.
Starting at eight o’clock, vendors are already setting up their stalls. There is everything—from seasonal fruits, garden vegetables, and local honey to field-scented cured meats and baked sweets that taste like a wood-fired oven. There’s also clothing, footwear, and some unexpected finds.
The best part is that the market winds through part of the old town, so between shopping and browsing, you’re also rediscovering the village. It’s easy to get lost among the stalls and end up having breakfast at one of those cafés that have been open for years and still smell the same as always.
The ambiance is the usual: natural, close-knit, authentic. And although everyone will tell you to arrive early, arriving later isn’t a problem. You might even run into someone you know and spend more time shopping.
Looking for something even more local?
Note this: on the second Saturday of each month, you can also visit the Mercat dels Porxes. Here, everything is local and direct—no intermediaries. They farm, cook, or harvest... and sell it themselves. Great products, direct dealings, and fair prices.
