Cala Fustera in Benissa: why is it the favorite?

Many of our users ask us about a cove where they can enjoy safely on the Costa Blanca, and although it's easy to enjoy any, Cala Fustera in Benissa always comes up in conversation. And it's no coincidence. It has that difficult balance: it is beautiful and photogenic, yes, but also comfortable, accessible, and with real services to spend the day hassle-free. Additionally, the environment is well-maintained, and the sea often displays those turquoise tones you expect from the Mediterranean… and here, they truly are fulfilled.

Where is Cala Fustera in Benissa and why does it stand out so much

Cala Fustera (also known as Playa de la Fustera) is located in the Benissa Costa strip, between Calpe and Moraira/Teulada, in one of the most pleasant coastal stretches of Marina Alta. It is, moreover, considered the Main Beach of Benissa, and not just because of its fame: due to its size and amenities, it serves as a perfect base for discovering the nearby coves.

In terms of dimensions, it’s not infinite (and that’s also appreciated), but large enough to be comfortable: it’s about 110 meters long and approximately 40 meters wide.

Why is it famous (and why does it usually enchant at first sight)

The fame of Cala Fustera in Benissa is based on four very clear pillars:

The first reason is visual: light-colored sand, transparent water, and a natural setting with rocky outcrops and vegetation very close to the shore, giving it that authentic Mediterranean feel without being wild or uncomfortable.

The second reason is the experience in the water. There is much talk here about snorkeling and diving for a specific reason: in the seabed, there are posidonia oceanica meadows, which add biodiversity and usually enhance the feeling of a clean, lively sea.

The third is the practical tranquility: it is very well equipped. It’s not a cove where you have to make do with a backpack and whatever is at hand, but a beach with services, seasonal lifeguards, and access thought out for different types of visitors. Additionally, there are restaurants in the area, although we recommend booking, especially during high season.

And the fourth, which is key for us: it has quality certifications. La Fustera has Blue Flag, as well as recognitions like Ecoplayas and references to management standards (ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 in tourism information). This is noticeable in the overall: cleanliness, order, signage, and a general feeling of a well-kept place.

How to get to Cala Fustera in Benissa without losing time

Getting there is straightforward, but it’s good to know a couple of things to avoid circling around, especially in summer.

Getting by car (the most common option)

The most practical way is to access via the road connecting Benissa and Calpe (the coastal stretch), following signs to La Fustera. Tourist information indicates that car access is direct and that there is parking nearby.

Our experienced tip: in July and August, if you want to park relatively close and calmly, the best is to go early or late in the afternoon. At noon, the parking lot can fill up, and then the visit begins with a search that doesn’t do justice to the place.

Getting by public transport (Benibús in season)

If you are staying in Benissa (town center) or prefer to forget about the car, there is the Benibús service during the summer months, with stops connecting Benissa with several coves, including Playa Fustera. The published schedule indicates service between summer dates (for example, from 23/06 to 28/09 in the visible info), with stops including Platja Fustera. You should check this with the transportation company responsible for the upcoming season, as schedules depend on them and may vary.

Arriving on foot

Here comes one of the great extras: Cala Fustera is an access point to the Benissa Ecological Walk, a very pleasant coastal route that connects with other coves and viewpoints. If you enjoy walking without significant elevation changes, this walk is a fantastic way to earn your swim and grasp the landscape.

What type of cove it is: sand, rocks, and seabed

A very common question is whether we are facing a rocky cove or a sandy beach. The answer reassures many: La Fustera is a golden sand beach, with rocky outcrops on the sides that protect and beautify the whole.

This mix of sand + rocks is precisely part of its charm: you can lie comfortably on the sandy area, and at the same time, you have rocky zones where the water is usually clearer and snorkeling is much more enjoyable.

Snorkeling and posidonia: the “secret” under the water

If you come with goggles and a snorkel, this cove is very rewarding. The presence of posidonia oceanica is highlighted in tourist info and is an indicator of a valuable marine ecosystem. It’s not just “beautiful”: it is a seabed that often offers fish, color changes, and that feeling of swimming in a natural aquarium when the sea is calm.

Services at Cala Fustera and what’s nearby

This is where Cala Fustera differs from many “Instagrammable” coves that are less practical. La Fustera is beautiful, yes, but also functional.

Services on the beach itself

At Cala Fustera in Benissa you can find a beach bar, toilets, washbasin, picnic areas, children’s play zone, lifeguarding in season, and accessible paths for people with reduced mobility (including walkways and an adapted bathroom with armored chair during summer).

It also includes a detail that many families and travelers value: the beach has nearby parking and support services (tourist info in the area).

And, as part of local regulations, there are prohibitions such as No dogs and No smoking, so keep this in mind before you go.

What’s right next to it: plans to complete the day

Very close is the Cova de la Fustera, a formation with remarkable height from which very rewarding views of the coast and the Peñón de Ifach are obtained. If you'd like a walk before or after swimming, it’s a perfect addition.

A few minutes away is another very attractive spot, a nautical club for activities such as kayaking, sailing, or diving, with facilities and nautical offerings. They also provide mooring services to enjoy the coast in a different way.

And if you want to connect coves (without needing a car), the Ecological Walk takes you to other well-known stops on Benissa Costa. It’s an ideal plan for couples traveling or those who prefer a relaxing day of swimming, walking, and photos.

Our advice to enjoy it as it deserves

We would particularly recommend it at two times: in the morning (calmer sea and better snorkeling) or at the last hour of the afternoon, when the light softens the landscape and the cove becomes even more elegant. If you seek extra comfort, bring water shoes in case you want to explore rocky areas, and don’t forget sun protection: the breeze can be misleading.

And here comes a recommendation that makes a difference during holidays: choose your accommodation wisely. If your idea is to combine beach, privacy, and a quality stay, the best is to stay near Benissa Costa or in strategic points like Moraira or Calpe, to move around stress-free. At Villas Guzmán we work with a selection of villas and apartments on the Costa

Blanca and we can help you find an option that matches your travel style and the level of comfort you seek.

Cala Fustera in Benissa is the favorite because it offers beauty, clear water, good snorkeling seabed, comprehensive services, and a well-maintained environment, plus excellent connections to continue exploring Benissa Costa on foot or by sea. Don’t hesitate to visit!
