Mascarat Beach (Altea)

A cove without sand, but with everything else: clear waters, a lively seabed, and that silence only broken when you decide to enter the sea.

Playa Mascarat is one of those coves that are not for everyone... but those who understand it keep coming back. There is no sand. Only pebbles and rocks. But in exchange, there are transparent waters, seagrass just above the rocks, and corners that seem from another world.

It is located right behind the Altea marina and within the Sierra Gelada Natural Park. That already gives you a hint that here you come to relax, to swim with snorkel gear, and to look more than to talk.

There are two ways to admire it without getting wet. One is from the rocky outcrop, where you can see the sea grass swaying as if it were breathing. The other, from a viewpoint further up, near the nearby residential area, from where the cove looks like a postcard.

If you arrive by boat, even better. If not, you can also enjoy it on foot. And if you get hungry or thirsty, there are beach bars at the edge of the beach to eat well, relax, and enjoy the salt spray still on your skin.
