Saint Michael the Archangel

A temple that doesn't seem to be from here, but has earned its place in the landscape of Altea.

At the top of Altea Hills, where there are usually villas and views, there is also a church that seems taken from another map. The Orthodox Church of Saint Michael the Archangel was the first of its kind in Spain, and although many still do not know it, it is worth a visit.

It was built in 2002, but not with what was at hand. All the materials arrived from Russia: the wood, the golden details, the icons, the domes… everything. And that shows. From the road, you can already tell that it is not an ordinary temple.

Inside, the smell of wood, the subdued light, and the iconographic details make it a more spiritual than monumental experience. It is not in the center, nor on the classic routes, and precisely for that reason it surprises. A small detour, a change of pace. Ideal for those who have seen everything usual and now wanted to see something they did not expect to find.
