Discover the Benitachell Cliffs Route

If you follow our blog, you will have already noticed that at Villas Guzmán we love to go hiking along the Costa Blanca. There are many interesting routes to explore in this area and today we want to tell you about one of our favorites, the cliffs of Benitachell route. Would you like to learn about it?

Benitatxell Cliffs Route

We are talking about a linear route that runs along the coastline of Benitatxell, but don’t worry, although it’s called “the cliffs” route, it’s not dangerous. The trail is easy to walk and there’s no risk of getting lost, making it a very friendly walk for everyone.

This starts at Cala Moraig and ends at Cala Llebeig, with a total round trip of about 4.6 km. There’s little elevation change, and no climbing is required. There is only one section with loose gravel stones, so just watch your step to avoid slipping, but it’s not dangerous or difficult.

From the parking lot at Cala Moraig, you should follow the marked trail with a wooden sign and a green stripe, indicating the distance to your destination. This will lead you along the route S.L. V-50.

During the walk, you can enjoy beautiful views of the coast, with its crystal-clear paradise waters. You can also see ancient caves used by local smugglers — quite an adventure!

When you reach your destination on the Benitachell cliffs route, you will discover Cala Llebeig, a small cobbled beach with a virgin cove appearance that invites you to take a swim. Just make sure to wear suitable footwear to enjoy your swim comfortably, as the beach is rocky.

You’ll be able to enjoy fresh air, spectacular views, and a rewarding swim — priceless! Still, before you set out, check these recommendations and FAQ.

Key points of the Benitatxell Cliffs Route

When is the best time to do the cliffs route?

As everyone knows, this part of the coast is hot in summer, and the hike can become strenuous. It’s better to avoid the hottest days, especially during the peak hours of the day, and do it either during early morning or late afternoon.

During the rest of the year, thanks to the pleasant autumn and winter temperatures in the area, the cliffs route is equally rewarding (or more) without the summer heat. In any case, it’s important to carry water, some food such as fruit or nuts, sun protection, a hat, and sunglasses.

What footwear should I wear?

Although it’s not a difficult route, it’s always best to wear appropriate hiking or trekking shoes to avoid injuries. You could also use sneakers. It’s not recommended to do it in flip-flops or sandals.

We also remind you that, if you plan to enjoy a refreshing swim at Cala Llebeig, you should bring extra footwear for swimming, as the beach is rocky.

Can children do the cliffs route?

Since the route is easy, children around 6 years old can complete it, as long as they are used to walking a bit. Remember to bring suitable clothing, proper footwear, water, food, sun protection, and a hat or cap, along with sunglasses.

Where to park at Cala Moraig?

This is a very important point when planning your Benitachell cliffs route. The parking lot is limited and especially during high season it fills up. You can reserve your parking spot for a specific day to avoid headaches. However, it’s always recommended to use public transportation.

There is also a shuttle bus with high frequency, especially in high season, so you don’t need private transport. Check availability before you travel to avoid surprises.
