Why go sightseeing in Calpe?

There are many reasons to tour in Calpe. It’s a small town, but very touristy. It is located in the Marina Alta region, in the Alicante province. It is very well connected and enjoys an ideal climate all year round. It doesn’t mean it’s warm in winter, but it is warmer than other areas on the peninsula.

In addition, many activities can be done in this beautiful coastal town. In fact, it can be the destination for all your holidays or you can travel from nearby towns to Calpe for the day.

That said, we want to give you a warning: if you visit Calpe, you won’t want to leave. There’s so much to see and do that it will become one of your favorite destinations. Surely, you’re already eager to find out why we say this. We invite you to discover it in the next section.

What places should you not miss when visiting Calpe?

We promised two things: that you’d want to visit Calpe and that it would become one of your favorite destinations. Now, we will show you the must-see places so that it becomes so:

  • Old Town of Calpe. It is in the city center and a bit away from the coast. This is typical in seaside towns, as they were built this way to protect against pirate attacks. The Town Hall has marked a tourist route that you can follow. You will discover charming streets, some decorated with flowers.
  • Museum of History and Archaeology. You will be amazed by the cultural richness of this museum. It’s a perfect idea for any time, especially if you get a rainy day or visit during a cooler season than summer.
  • La Muralla Roja Building. Its designer is the renowned architect Ricardo Bofill. Its cross-shaped design and color, which gives it its name, have made it very popular. From here, we invite you to admire it from outside, as not all neighbors like people entering to take photos inside.
  • Baños de la Reina and Roman Baths. The Baños de la Reina is a Roman archaeological site located on Arenal-Bol beach where you can swim or snorkel. Right next to it, you will find the Roman Baths. These are very valuable remains and, naturally, are protected from damage. In any case, both historical sites are worth a visit.
  • Penon de Ifach. Surely you expected us to recommend this place, as it is one of the most famous in the area. Not only in Calpe but in the entire Alicante province. It is a mountain that faces the sea but is connected to land. It measures a little over 300 meters and can be seen from throughout the town. It has been declared a National Park and you can enjoy a route through the area. You will discover a medieval settlement and incredible vegetation. The views are amazing, but reaching the top is not easy. Of course, you can also swim around it and explore its underwater world.
  • El Racó Cove. Calpe has several beaches that might interest you, but if we had to recommend one, it would be Cala El Racó. It is precisely below the Penon de Ifach. As mentioned earlier, it’s a perfect spot for diving. Also for swimming and enjoying the calm waters. You can go for a while or spend the whole day there. You won’t run out of activities.
  • Salt flats. In the center of Calpe, there are salt flats you should visit. They feature several lagoons and are a protected area, so keep that in mind when accessing. By the way, the birds you can see are stunning, from flamingos to storks.
  • Port of Calpe. If you visit a fishing town, you cannot miss its port. Moreover, if you like to wake up early, you can go to the fish auction at the market. Alternatively, you can enjoy this meal or any other in the many restaurants in the area.

We have left out many other attractions like beaches or hiking trails. However, it’s surely clear to you now that touring in Calpe is a fantastic plan. At Villas Guzmán, we offer the accommodation you need to make your experience unforgettable. Book now!
