Things to do in Benitachell, the most original ones!
The Alicante coast is one of the most beautiful in our country. It is full of charming Mediterranean villages and, additionally, boasts an exceptional coastline. An example is Benitachell, a small municipality located between Jávea and Moraira, covering 12 km² and perfect for a holiday. We show you 5 things to do in Benitachell.
Enjoy the beaches of Benitachell
The coast of Benitachell is astonishing. In just two kilometers, you can enjoy stunning coves with clear waters and underwater caves. We talk about three of them, where you can spend a day with family or enjoy a diving or snorkeling session.
- Cala de Los Tiestos. One of the main attractions of this cove is its exclusivity due to the difficulty of access. It is necessary to descend a ravine or use a boat. If you decide to visit it descending the steep wall, we recommend using your own climbing equipment. The only element available for land access is a rope.
- Cala de Llebeig. The Llebeig cove is another pristine cove, without tourist services, but with a special charm. It has a rocky and gravel beach, three small buildings that do not spoil the aesthetic of the place, and some caves that were once used to store fishing gear. One of the buildings was turned into a coast Guardia Civil barracks.
- Cala del Moraig. It is one of the trendy coves on social media. Deep blue waters, cliffs, and sea caves make this place an exceptional spot. The Cova dels Arcs—Arches Cave—is the most photographed location. It is a natural sea cave with an entrance from the sea, featuring three arches, hence its name. Expert divers explore its waters to visit the underwater caves inside.
Visit the Poble Nou de Benitachell
Although the largest developed area is la Cumbre de Sol de Benitachell, a huge urbanization located atop the cliffs, this is not the town center. If you want to get to know the village, you need to go a few kilometers inland because it is not directly on the coast.
The church that presides over the town is notable for its architectural interest. While the town is pretty, the most remarkable are the orchards of almonds and grapevines around it. The riuraus, traditional structures used for drying grapes, also catch your attention.
Visit the moscatel vineyards, a unique activity to do in Benitachell
Another activity, which has little to do with Benitachell's beaches, is tasting the grapes cultivated in the area, especially moscatel in its various forms. The town’s agriculture is primarily based on this specific cultivation, accounting for about 80% of the land dedicated to farming.
You can plan a visit to the fields to taste this grape firsthand, learn about the drying process, or try a moscatel wine produced locally. You can also learn about the program promoted by its Town Hall, BioMoscatell, an initiative for cultivating this traditional grape without artificial additives.
Routes through Benitachell
The routes around Benitachell are another excellent option if you visit the town. The entire coastal area consists of cliffs, with ancient paths worth exploring. The Ruta de los Acantilados is the main one.
Besides the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea, you will notice stone enclosures around some caves. It is said they once served as refuges for locals and also for smugglers.

Another recommended route is the Riu del Moraig. The main curiosity of this path is reaching a cavity where the underground river Moraig, also called Riu Blanc, flows out. Here, fresh groundwater from underground mixes with seawater, creating an image similar to a well. Swimming or diving in it is very dangerous, so it is not advisable to descend into it.
Visit the viewpoints of Benitachell
A fifth activity we suggest is visiting the viewpoints of Benitachell. Being a mountainous area on the edge of the sea, the views are spectacular. You can choose from the following:
- Mirador el Portalet. Located right in the heart of El Poble Nou. You can see all the fields and vineyards from here.
- Mirador Los Tiestos. From the top of Cala de Los Tiestos, Dels Testos in Valencian, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Mediterranean.
- Mirador Moraig. As with the previous one, you can see the Mediterranean Sea in all its glory, along with the Moraig Fault.
- Miradores Cantal de Gener and Punta de l'Alderà. Besides the sea views, this viewpoint impresses with its steep cliffs.
- Mirador Puig Llorença. From this viewpoint, you'll have a spectacular 360º view. On one side, you see the sea; on the other, kilometers of coastal land. On clear days, you can see the Balearic Islands.
