What to see in Moraira in one day
The municipality of Teulada-Moraira in Marina Alta is known for its extensive catalog of tourist attractions in its two locations, Teulada and Moraira.
On this occasion, we would like to share some suggestions on what to see in Moraira and why this municipality is so popular among travelers visiting the Alicante coast.
What to see in Moraira: nature and history
Although Moraira has only 1,700 inhabitants, this number multiplies in summer. It is located in a low mountainous area that extends to the coast and offers landscapes and views typical of the Mediterranean environment.
Beaches and coves to see in Moraira
The municipality of Teulada-Moraira has 8 kilometers of coastline. Most of the shoreline is steep and rocky, inaccessible from land, but there are small beaches and coves such as L'Ampolla, very close to the town center, or Portet, west of Punta de Moraira.
A unique way to explore the beautiful beaches of Moraira is by kayak. In the town, there are several companies dedicated to active tourism, located near the port and in Portet beach, offering this experience and other outdoor adventures in contact with the coastal nature.

In total, there are eight beaches along the municipality, including Cap Blanc or Punta Estrella, Cala de la Galera, Cala de l'Andragó, Les Platjetes, Playa de l'Ampolla, Cala del Portixolet, Playa del Portet, and Cala Llebeig.
Moraira Castle, a major attraction in the area
The town of Moraira is a worthwhile place to visit, where you can enjoy its cultural and architectural richness. One of the points of interest in this locality is Moraira Castle.

Although it is known as a castle, it is actually a bastion with a horseshoe shape built in the 18th century to serve as a defense against Berber pirate attacks. This bastion is made up of rocks from an old quarry near the Mediterranean.
Inside the castle, visitors can learn more about the defensive towers built between the 16th and 18th centuries to protect the coast from maritime attacks. This is one of the most interesting points to visit in Moraira if you are looking for an enriching activity.
Additionally, the castle is a short distance from L'Ampolla beach and the Senillar marsh, a wetland protected as a Wildlife Reserve since 2004.
The Torre del Cap d'Or and the Cova de les Cendres
The Torre del Cap d'Or is an impressive place both for its scenic beauty along the way and for its defensive structure. Standing at 11 meters tall, this building is solid at the base and was accessed inside via a rope ladder launched from within. The door was located halfway up.
Moreover, the Moraira tip is one of the best places in Marina Alta to enjoy panoramic views, such as the Peñón de Ifach or the cliffs of Benitatxell. The hiking route to it only requires a three-kilometer walk and offers the opportunity to discover the Cueva de les Cendres.
The Les Cendres archaeological site is a tourist attraction worth visiting in Moraira. This site is known for its grayish land, which gives it an ash-like appearance, hence the name "cave of les Cendres". Access to the cave is via route SL-CV 51, which also leads to Torre del Cap d'Or.
This cave is an important archaeological and paleontological site in the Valencian Community. Evidence of human occupation dating back 25,000 years during the Paleolithic has been found, as well as Neolithic ceramic remains and traces of human settlements from the Iberian period, including some walls still visible today. Some of the discoveries made in this cave are displayed at the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante.
